The central part features the denomination 'MONETA RUBL' (COIN ROUBLE) in two lines. At the top of the coin (above the denomination) is the Imperial Crown. Below the denomination is a decorative divider consisting of two pointed lines with a dot in a circle between them. Below the divider, the year of mintage '1842' and the abbreviation 'S.P.B.' (Saint Petersburg Mint) are indicated on two lines. Along the left edge of the coin is a laurel branch, and along the right edge is an oak branch. At the base, the branches are tied together with a ribbon, the knot of which forms an elegant bow. The rim is decorated with raised denticles.
  • Obverse
The central part depicts the State Emblem of the Russian Empire – a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two Imperial Crowns, with a third, larger crown above them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow – a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). Surrounding the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. On the wings are the titular coats of arms: on the right – Kazan, Astrakhan, and Siberian; on the left – Polish, Taurican, and Finnish. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left – an orb. Below the right talon is the letter 'A', below the left is the letter 'Ch'. These are the initials of Mintmaster Alexei Chadov. The center of the obverse is enclosed within a thin, continuous braided border. At the top is an eight-petaled rosette, visually marking the beginning of the inscription: 'CHISTAGO SEREBRA 4 ZOLOTNIKA 21 DOLIA' (PURE SILVER 4 ZOLOTNIKS 21 PARTS). The rim is decorated with denticles pointing towards the center.
