    Along the upper edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: from left to right 'TO THE HEROES OF THE KOREAN WAR', translated as 'To the Heroes of the Korean War', below 'FIVE DOLLARS'. The inscriptions are separated by two raised elements in the form of stars. In the central part of the reverse is a raised depiction of a soldier in a poncho and helmet against a solid wall.
  • Obverse
    In the central part is depicted the coat of arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, which is a round disc with an angel framed by two interlocking chains. Along the outer edge of the disc at the top is the name of the state in English 'REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS', at the bottom is the motto in Marshallese 'JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN', translated as 'Accomplishment Through Joint Effort'. From the angel's head, two rays extend upwards, between which is a twenty-four-pointed star. Above the angel's wings: on the right is a fishing net, on the left is a shell tool. Below the wings: on the right is a canoe, on the left are coconut palms. Below the angel is an image of a traditional Marshallese navigational chart in perspective, below it an inscription on a ribbon 'Seal'. Below the outer chain, to the left of the disc, is the denomination mark '$5', to the right is the year of issue '1997'.
