    In the central part, within a smaller diameter circle, is depicted the university building in the city of Kharkiv; below it, inverted, is the building of the pre-revolutionary Imperial University. Along the edge of the coin is an inscription in Ukrainian: «KHARKIVSKYI NATSIONALNYI UNIVERSYTET im. V.N. KARAZINA. 200 ROKIV», which translates to: «V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. 200 Years».
  • Obverse
    The surface is divided into three unequal sectors by two parallel lines. In the central part, in the upper and partially in the middle sector, is depicted a model of the celestial sphere. To its left are the Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the mint mark of the Kyiv Mint. At the top and right along the edge is text in Ukrainian: «ROZUM. ZNANNIA. MAIBUTNIE», which translates to: «Reason. Knowledge. Future». Below the model, in the middle sector, is the inscription: «2 HRYVNI» - 2 hryvnias. Below that, in the lower sector, is the country name in Ukrainian: «UKRAINA» and the year of mintage 2004.
