  • Reverse
    Along the upper edge of the coin is the English text 'USS CONSTITUTION'. To the left of the inscription, separated by an anchor symbol, is the year of the ship's launch '1797'; to the right is the year of the bicentennial anniversary '1997'. In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of the sailing warship. To its right is a two-line inscription '5 / DOLLARS'. The symbol 'R' above the ship's stern is the mintmark of the Rhode Island mint.
  • Obverse
    In the central part is the coat of arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, depicting a round disc with an angel framed by two interlocking chains. Along the outer edge of the disc, at the top, is the state name in English 'REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS'; at the bottom is the motto in Marshallese 'JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN', translating to 'Accomplishment Through Joint Effort'. Two rays emanate upward from the angel's head, between which is a twenty-four-pointed star. Above the angel's wings: on the right is a fishing net, on the left is a shell tool. Below the wings: on the right is a canoe, on the left are coconut palms. Below the angel is an image of a traditional Marshallese navigational chart in perspective, beneath it the inscription on a ribbon 'Seal'. Below the outer chain, to the left of the disc, is the sign $5; to the right is the year of issue '1997'.
