Reverse The central part features the lesser coat of arms of Portugal - a shield on a background of an armillary sphere. Along the arc of the left and right edge of the coin is a Latin inscription: "PECUNIA.TOTUN CIRCUMIT.ORBEM" - "MONEY TRAVELS AROUND THE WORLD". The edges of the rim are decorated with raised decorative denticles.
Obverse The central part features the number 80 in Roman numerals: "LXXX", above it is a crown, below - the year of mintage: "1821" and the mint mark: "B" - Belém. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge is a Latin text: "JOANNES VI D G PORT BRAS ET ALG REX" - "JOHN VI BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF PORTUGAL BRAZIL AND THE ALGARVES". The edges of the rim are decorated with raised decorative denticles.
