    The central part depicts the first microphone device capable of transmitting intelligible speech. Below the image is the inscription '1876 FIRST VOICE TRANSMISSIONS'. To the right, above the device, is a cameo featuring a portrait of Alexander Graham Bell; above it, in three lines, is the inventor's name in English and his years of life 'ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL 1847-1922'. Along the upper edge of the coin is the English inscription 'INVENTIONS OF THE MODERN WORLD'; along the lower edge, in two lines, is '1 CROWN'.

    Centered is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. In the truncation of the portrait are the initials of the British sculptor Raphael David Maklouf - 'RDM'; below the truncation are the Latin letters 'PM' - the mintmark of the Pobjoy Mint, Surrey, United Kingdom. Around the circumference along the rim are English inscriptions: on the left, the monarch's name 'ELIZABETH II'; on the right, the name of the British Crown Dependency 'ISLE OF MAN' and the year of issue '1996'. The rim is decorated with raised denticles.
