Reverse
In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of an antique submarine sailing underwater to the right. Above it, on the waves, are a steamship and a rowboat. Below the submarine is a seabed landscape. Under the bow of the submarine are the years 1887-1889, under the stern is the Havana mint mark and the mintage year 2000. In the upper part, along the rim, is text in Spanish: «RELIQUIAS DE LA NAVEGACION», translated as «Relics of Navigation». Along the lower rim is an inscription in Spanish: «SUBMARINO PERAL», translated as «Peral Submarine».
Obverse
In the central part is the coat of arms of the Republic of Cuba. Above it is an inscription in Spanish: «REPUBLICA DE CUBA», translated as «Republic of Cuba». In the lower part, along the rim, is an inscription in Spanish: «1 PESO» - 1 peso.
