Along the edge of the coin, the name of the Polish region 'Lesser Poland Voivodeship' is split into two parts in Polish: 'WOJEWÓDZTWO' at the top and 'MAŁOPOLSKIE' at the bottom. In the central part, on a background of a leaf with curled edges and a brickwork texture, is the voivodeship coat of arms: a heraldic shield featuring a crowned eagle with wings spread.

To the left, top, and right along the rim, the country name in Polish 'RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA' (Republic of Poland) and the year of issue '2004'. In the central part, on a background of a map of the Polish state, is the Polish state eagle. Below, the numeral '2', flanked on both sides by the Polish letters 'ZŁ' (2 zlotych). Under the eagle's left claw is the mintmark of the Polish Mint.
