Reverse In the central part is the lesser coat of arms of Portugal - a shield on a background of an armillary sphere. Along the arc of the left and right edge of the coin is an inscription in Latin: "PECUNIA.TOTUN CIRCUMIT.ORBEM" - "MONEY CIRCULATES AROUND THE WORLD". Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim.
Obverse In the central part is the Roman numeral 20: "XX", above it is depicted a crown, below - the year of mintage: "1821" and the mint mark: "R" - Rio de Janeiro. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge is text in Latin: "JOANNES VI D G PORT BRAS ET ALG REX" - "JOHN VI BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF PORTUGAL BRAZIL AND THE ALGARVES". Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim.
