    In the central part, a right-facing profile portrait of the paramount chief and Head of State Malietoa Tanumafili II. Below the neck truncation are the incused letters 'HP', denoting the initials of the designer: Thomas Humphrey Paget. Along the upper edge of the coin, from left to right, runs the text in Samoan: 'MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II SAMOA I SISIFO', which translates as: 'MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II WESTERN SAMOA'. At the bottom is the year of issue: '2000'.
