Reverse
The central part of the reverse features a relief design of a sow with five piglets. Below it is a two-line inscription in Irish: "leɑṪ pingin" - half penny, above it is the abbreviation: "1/2 d", which stands for: 1/2 penny. Along the edge of the coin is a toothed relief pattern.
Obverse
The central part features the coat of arms of Ireland. To the left and right of it are the numbers: 19 and 28 respectively, indicating the year of mintage: 1928. To the left and right along the rim is the country name in Irish: "SɑORSTɑT éIReɑnn" - Irish Free State. The edge of the coin has relief elements in the form of teeth.
