In the central part, within a ring of stars, is the Great Seal of the United States - a bald eagle holding a shield. In its beak is the motto "E pluribus unum". In its left talon are arrows, in its right an olive branch. Below the left talon are the artist's initials "FG" for Frank Gasparro. Along the upper edge is the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", below is "HALF DOLLAR".
Obverse
Centered is the left-facing profile of the 35th U.S. President, John F. Kennedy. To the right and left of the portrait is the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST". Along the upper rim is the word "LIBERTY". Below is the year of minting "2018". In the truncation of the neck is the Latin letter "R", the designer's mark of Gilroy Roberts. Below the portrait is the mint mark "P" for the Philadelphia Mint.
