Along the rim of the coin is the text: at the bottom in English 'CENTENARY OF FEDERATION', at the top the dates '1901-2001'. Along the left border of the state are the designer's initials of Joseph Neve - 'JKN'.

    In the central part is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. In the left part, along the rim of the coin, is the monarch's name 'ELIZABETH II', on the right the country name 'AUSTRALIA' and the year of issue '2001'. Below the truncation of the monarch's neck is the sculptor's initials 'IRB' for Ian Rank-Broadley.
