    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver Luc Luycx's initials 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. From these outlines, six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards, ending in 12 stars.

    Along the rim on the outer ring, 12 stars of the European Union are evenly distributed. Along the edge of the inner disc are Greek inscriptions: on the left, the issuing country Hellenic Republic 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ'; at the bottom, the artist's name DOMENIKOS THEOTOKOPOULOS 'ΔΟΜΗΝΙΚΟΣ ΘΕΟΤΟΚΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ'; on the right, the years of his life '1541—1614'. In the central part, in the foreground, is the 'Portrait of an Old Man', considered a self-portrait of El Greco. In the background is a fragment of his painting 'Apostle Paul'. To the left of the images is the mint year '2014', below it the artist's signature, and to the right of the apostle's head is the mintmark of the Athens Mint (acanthus leaf).
