All of this is enclosed within a circle of dots. To the right, bottom, and left, an inscription in Portuguese: 'AFRICA. PORTUGUEZA', translating to 'Portuguese Africa'. At the top along the rim, the mint year 1786, separated from the inscription by two four-petaled flowers with dots on the sides. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
