In the central part, against the background of a map of the island, an Atlantic herring is depicted facing left. Above the image is the abbreviation of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization 'F.A.O.', below is the English text 'FOOD FOR ALL'. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top the name of the British Crown Dependency 'ISLE OF MAN', at the bottom 'HALF PENNY'.
Obverse
In the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. Below the truncation of the portrait are the Latin letters 'PM'. Along the rim, the English text 'Elizabeth the Second' is split into two parts: on the left 'ELIZABETH II', on the right 'THE SECOND'. Below is the year of issue '1981'.
