    At the top, beneath a toothed rim, the country name 'NEW ZEALAND' is inscribed along the border. The year of mintage '1963' is at the bottom. In the center is the inscription '3d', meaning '3 pence'. Below this are two traditionally carved patu (wahaika) clubs. Beneath them is the engraver's mark of George Edward Kruger-Gray: 'K.G'.
  • Obverse
    Along the border, beneath a beaded rim, is the English text 'QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND'. The beginning and end of the inscription are separated by an equilateral cross on the left. In the center is a right-facing portrait of the monarch.
