In the central part, a frontal portrait of Pope Benedict XVI. Along the upper edge in an arc, his name prior to enthronement: 'JOSEPH RATZINGER'. Along the lower edge in an arc, an inscription in Catalan: 'KARDENAL', which translates as 'Cardinal', and the date 27.6.1977.
Obverse
In the central part, within a circle of smaller diameter, the coat of arms of Andorra is depicted. Below it, the numeral '50' and the inscription 'ct.', meaning 50 centimos. To the left, top, and right along the edge, an inscription in Catalan: 'PRINCIPAT D'ANDORRA', which translates as 'Principality of Andorra'. In the lower part, along the edge of the coin, the mint year 2006.
