    Along the upper edge of the coin, the country name 'BOTSWANA' in English. Below, the inscription 'IPELEGENG', meaning 'Ipelegeng', a town in Botswana. In the central part – the national coat of arms: an oval shield supported by two zebras, the left one holding an elephant tusk, the right one a sorghum stalk. On the shield, three interlocking gears are depicted in the upper part, waves below them, and beneath the waves – the head of a domestic bull. On the motto ribbon below the shield, the inscription 'PULA' meaning 'rain'. Below the ribbon, the year of minting '1980'.
