Reverse The central part of the reverse features a raised design of a cherub flying above the ground; above its head is the radiant cap of the Goddess of Liberty. The coin's edge is decorated with elements in the shape of dentils.
Obverse The central part depicts a pyramid with four wreaths below and an open book leaning against it, set against vegetation. Along the upper edge of the coin, from left to right, is the Spanish text: 'Est. Lib. Fed. de Zacatecas' (full name: Estado Libre Federation de Zacatecas), which translates to 'Free Federal State of Zacatecas', and the mint year 1836. In the lower part, along the edge and separated by five-petal flowers, is the Spanish inscription: 'QUARTILLA' - quarter (real). The coin's edge is decorated with elements in the shape of dentils.
