    In the central part, within the inner field, is the coat of arms of the region – Finnish Karelia. It features a crowned heraldic shield depicting: two arms, the left clad in plate armor wielding an upright straight sword, the right in chainmail wielding a sabre, with a crown above them. To the left of the shield is the numeral 5, to the right the Latin letter 'T' – the designer's mark for Nora Tapper and a heraldic lion within a circle – the mintmark of the Mint of Finland. Along the upper edge arc is the year of issue '2011'. Below is the inscription in Finnish 'EURO' (Euro).
