In the center is an image of a sawfish. Along the edge, an inscription in French: "BANQUE CENTRALE DES ÉTATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST", which translates as: "CENTRAL BANK OF WEST AFRICAN STATES". Below - the letters: "RJ", denoting the initials of the artist, Raymond Joly.
