    Along the upper edge of the coin, the French text 'BANQUE CENTRALE' and below 'ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST', translated as 'Central Bank of the West African States'. The inscriptions are separated by rosettes. In the central part of the reverse, a relief image of a goldweight separates the inscription '5F' — 'five francs'. A goldweight is a weight in the shape of a human, animal, or bird figure, used by the Ashanti people for weighing gold dust.
