In the central part, within an openwork circular frame, is a palm tree dividing the year of issue into two parts: "19" on the left and "52" on the right (1952). Along the upper arc is "BRITISH WEST AFRICA" and at the bottom "ONE SHILLING". The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.
Obverse
In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain wearing a crown. Around the edge of the coin runs the Latin legend "GEORGIVS VI DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF:", which translates to "GEORGE VI BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL THE BRITONS, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH" (a cross begins the legend). Below the monarch's truncation are the initials of the British medallist "PM" - Percy Metcalfe. The coin's rim features decorative raised denticles.
