    In the central part, a scene of the first murder is depicted facing left. Abel lies on his back. Cain pins his brother down with his foot, holds Abel's hand with his left hand, and has raised the murder weapon for a strike. Below the image is the mint mark of the Rome mint - 'R'. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in Italian: at the top the state name 'CITTA’ DEL VATICANO' (Vatican City), at the bottom 'L. 500' (500 lire), on the right and left three raised dots.
  • Obverse
    In the central part is the left-facing profile of the Pope. Along the edge of the coin from left to right runs a Latin text - 'IOANNES PAVLVS II P.M. AN. XVII' (John Paul II Supreme Pontiff 17th year as head of the Catholic Church), and the Gregorian year of minting '1995' in Roman numerals 'MCMXCV'. Below the truncation, the names of the artist and engraver 'E. Manfrini-Driutti inc.'. In the lower part along the edge of the coin are three six-pointed stars.
