In the central part is the left-facing profile of Malietoa Tanumafili II. Below him is the year of issue: 1987, flanked by five-pointed stars. Around the edge of the coin is the inscription in Samoan: 'MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II SAMOA I SISIFO' - Malietoa Tanumafili II, Western Samoa.
