Reverse
The central part features the coat of arms of Ghana: a shield quartered by a cross. On the left is the number 19, on the right is 97, together forming the year of issue - 1997. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top - "50", at the bottom - "PESEWAS", which translates to "50 PESEWAS".
Obverse
In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the text of the country's name in English: "GHANA". Below it is the motto: "FREEDOM AND JUSTICE". The central part depicts a traditional Ghanaian drum.
