    Along the upper edge of the coin, the English text: BRITISH WEST AFRICA. Below, the inscription 2 SHILLINGS. In the central part, within a closed linear circle, a palm tree is depicted, with the year of minting '1947' beneath its crown.
  • Obverse
    Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised dots. Along the rim are Latin inscriptions: ':GEORGIVS VI', 'D.G. BRITT. OMN. REX F.D. IND: IMP:', which translate to 'George VI, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India'. In the central part is a left-facing profile portrait of the King. The letters 'PM' below the neck truncation are the initials of engraver Percy Metcalfe.
