    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver Luc Luycx's initials 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. Six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards from it, with 12 stars at their ends.

    Twelve stars of the European Union are evenly placed along the coin's edge. Along the edge of the inner disc: on the right, the year '1515' and the issuing country's name Portugal in Portuguese 'PORTUGAL'; on the lower left, the inscription 'TIMOR', translating from Portuguese as 'TIMOR', and the mint year '2015'. The central part depicts a 16th-century caravel with the cross of the Order of Christ on its sails. Below is the roof of a traditional Timorese house with wooden sculptures of five horsemen. To the right of the roof is the abbreviation 'INCM' – the mintmark of the Lisbon Mint, below it is the signature of the artist Fernando Fonseca.
