Reverse Wide rim. In the central part, within a circle of smaller diameter formed by the rim, a palm tree is depicted against a sea background, with a two-masted steamship sailing away over the horizon to its right. At the top along the rim, the inscription in English: 'TWO CENTS'. At the bottom along the rim, the year of minting 1862. The inscriptions are separated by two five-pointed stars on each side.
Obverse Wide rim. In the central part, a left-facing head of the goddess Liberty in a Phrygian cap is depicted; a five-pointed star is on the cap, and the engraver's initials 'W.J.T.' for W.J. Taylor are on the neck truncation. To the left, top, and right along the rim, the country name Republic of Liberia in English: 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA'. At the bottom along the rim, three five-pointed stars.
