Obverse In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is the text of the country's name, the United Mexican States, in Spanish: "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS". The central part features the coat of arms of Mexico: an eagle perched on a cactus, gripping a snake. In the lower part, following the curve of the coin's edge, are oak and laurel leaves tied together with a ribbon. The edge of the coin features a decorative raised pattern of circles.
