On the left, the Latin inscription 'PAVLVS VI P. M.' — 'Paul VI, Pontifex Maximus'. On the left, the date 'ANNO VII MCMLXIX', which translates to 'year seven 1969' — the seventh year of the pope's reign. In the central part is a portrait of Pope Paul VI wearing a mitre.
