Reverse
In the upper part of the reverse is the crown of the Russian Empire. Below it, the denomination and monetary unit are indicated on two lines: 5 KOPĒEKЪ. Next is a divider element consisting of two elongated, oppositely directed figures with a dot between them. Below the divider is the year of mintage '1844'. Under the year is the abbreviation 'S.P.B.' (Saint Petersburg Mint). In the left part of the coin, along the edge, is a laurel branch, and in the right part, an oak branch. At the base, the branches are tied with a ribbon forming a neat bow. Raised denticles are struck along the entire edge of the coin.
Obverse
In the central part is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire – a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two coronets, and a third, larger crown above them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow – a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). Around the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. On the wings are depicted the titular coats of arms: on the right – those of Kazan, Astrakhan, and Siberia; on the left – those of Poland, Taurida, and Finland. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left – an orb. Under the right talon is the letter 'K', under the left – the letter 'B'. These are the initials of mintmaster Konstantin Butenev. The rim is decorated with denticles.
