    Along the upper rim, the Portuguese inscription 'III CENTENÁRIO DA MORTE', translated as '300th Anniversary of the Death'; along the lower rim, 'PADRE ANTÓNIO VIEIRA' — 'Father António Vieira'; on the right, in two lines, a stylized depiction of the birth year and the tercentenary year of the commemorative date, as well as the year of issue '1697 - 1997'. The central part features a portrait of the Padre, in left-facing half-profile. Below it, on the left, the abbreviation 'INCM' — the mintmark of the Lisbon Mint, and on the right, the artist's signature by Hélder Batista 'H. BATISTA'.
