Obverse In the center is the coat of arms of Ecuador: an oval shield depicting the Chimborazo volcano and the Guayas River; above the shield, a condor with outstretched wings; on the sides are four flags of Ecuador. To the left, top, and right along the circumference near the rim with denticle-like elements is the country name 'Republic of Ecuador' in Spanish - 'REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR', below - the year of minting '1979'. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
