Reverse In the central part, against a background of a harbor, an ocean liner, and the sea, a Dhow sailing boat is depicted. Above the image is a two-line inscription '10 FRANCS'. Along the upper edge of the coin, from left to right, is the country's motto: 'UNITE, EGALITE, PAIX' (Unity, Equality, Peace). All inscriptions are in French, with raised dots between the words. Below the stern of the boat is a cornucopia (the mintmark of the Paris Mint), and below the bow is a bee (the privy mark of Mint Director Pierre Rodier).
Obverse In the central part is the state coat of arms of the Republic of Djibouti (a laurel wreath, inside which are a shield and a spear topped with a five-pointed star. On either side are two hands, each holding a traditional dagger). Around the circumference along the rim is the country's name in French - 'REPUBLIQUE DE DJIBOUTI', with the year of issue '1996' below.
