Reverse Around the upper edge of the coin, the English text BRITISH WEST AFRICA. The year of issue '1947' is at the bottom, flanked on both sides by raised dots. The central part of the reverse features a relief image of a hexagram.
Obverse Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised serrations. Around the arc of the coin's edge on the left is the monarch's name in Latin 'GEORGIVS VI', on the right the inscription 'REX ET IND: IMP:', translating to 'King Emperor of India'. The British crown is at the top. At the bottom is an inscription in Arabic قرش نصف واحد — 'half penny'. The central part features the English inscription 'ONE HALF PENNY'. Below the hole are the letters 'KN' — the mint mark for Kings Norton Metal, Birmingham.
