In the central part, two wolves are depicted against a background of sea and mountains, facing right. To their right is the mintmark of the Havana mint and the issue date 2004. Above, along the rim, is an inscription in Spanish: "FAUNA IBÉRICA EN EXTINCIÓN", which translates to "Endangered Iberian Fauna". Along the lower edge in an arc is an inscription in Spanish: "Lobo Gris Ibérico", which translates to "Iberian Gray Wolf".
Obverse
In the central part is the coat of arms of the Republic of Cuba. Above is an inscription in Spanish: "REPUBLICA DE CUBA", which translates to "Republic of Cuba". In the lower part, along the rim of the coin in an arc, is an inscription in Spanish: "1 PESO" - 1 peso.
