    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. Extending upwards and downwards from it are six vertical parallel lines each, ending in 12 stars.

    Along the rim on the outer ring, 12 stars of the European Union are evenly distributed. Along the edge of the inner disc are inscriptions in Greek: at the top, the issuing state's name Hellenic Republic 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ'; at the bottom '100 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΗΝ ΕΝΩΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΚΡΗΤΗΣ ΜΕ ΤΗΝ ΕΛΛΑΔΑ' — '100 YEARS SINCE THE UNION OF CRETE WITH GREECE'. At the right edge of the disc is the Athens Mint mark (acanthus leaf), below it the years '1913 - 2013': 1913 - the year of the commemorated event, 2013 - the year of its centenary and the year of issue. In the central part, Cretan rebels are depicted raising the Greek flag — a symbolic representation of Crete's struggle for union with Greece.
