At the bottom, the abbreviation 'INCM' — the mintmark of the Lisbon Mint and the engraver's name 'BAIBA SIME'. In the central part of the reverse, a relief design of a donkey and three people in traditional Caretos masks and costumes adorned with bells.

In the central part, a fragment of the Portuguese coat of arms is depicted — a Spanish-style heraldic shield with seven castles and five small shields on a background of an armillary sphere. Above the coat of arms, the inscription '2,5 EURO'. At the bottom, a stylized depiction of a carnival procession in the Trás-os-Montes region.
