The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. Extending upwards and downwards from it are six vertical parallel lines each, ending in 12 stars.

Along the edge of the inner disc on the left, a two-line inscription in Greek reads '2.400 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΗΝ ΙΔΡΥΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΑΚΑΔΗΜΙΑΣ ΠΛΑΤΩΝΟΣ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ', translating to '2400 YEARS SINCE THE FOUNDING OF PLATO'S ACADEMY HELLENIC REPUBLIC'. In the central part, a left-facing profile portrait of Plato. To the right of the portrait is the Athens Mint mark (acanthus leaf), below it the year of issue '2013'.
