In the central part, a hoopoe is depicted sitting on a tree branch. Along the arc of the lower edge is its name in English: "A HOOPOE".
Obverse
In the upper part, along the arc of the coin's edge, is text in Korean: "조선민주주의인민공회 국 중잉은행" - "CENTRAL BANK OF THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA". In the central part is the state emblem of North Korea. Below it is the denomination of 20 won: "20원". In the lower part, along the arc of the coin's edge: "주체96 (2007)" - "JU-CHE 96 (2007)".
