Along the upper rim, the country name 'ANGOLA' is inscribed in an arc, flanked on both sides by rosettes in the form of stars. Below is the inscription '50 CENTAVOS', meaning '50 centavos'. The central part features the lesser coat of arms of Portugal: a heraldic shield on an armillary sphere. The shield displays five smaller shields arranged in a cross, each with bezants. The main shield is surrounded by a wide bordure with seven castles.
Obverse
The edge of the coin is decorated with raised dots. Along the rim in an arc, the left side bears the Portuguese inscription 'REPUBLICA', and the right side 'PORTUGUESA', translating to 'Portuguese Republic'. The mint year '1928' is below. The central part features a left-facing profile of Marianne.
