    In the central part, the left-facing profile of Malietoa Tanumafili II. In the neck truncation are the initials 'HP' - the designer's mark of Thomas Humphrey Paget. Below it is the year of issue: 1996, flanked by five-pointed stars. Around the edge of the coin is an inscription in Samoan: 'MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II SAMOA I SISIFO' - Malietoa Tanumafili II, Western Samoa.
