In the central part, a gold weight figurine of the Akan-Ashanti people. To its left is the numeral: 1, to its right - the abbreviation "F.", which stands for 'franc'. Around the edge, the inscription in French: "BANQUE CENTRALE DES ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST" - Central Bank of West African States, separated by a point, flanked by the privy marks of the Paris Mint: an owl and a cornucopia.
Obverse
In the central part, within a wreath of corn, a gazelle's head. Below it, the year of issue: 1971. To its left, the letters "G.B.L. BAZOR" - the mark of the Chief Engraver of the Paris Mint, Lucien Georges Bazor. Around the edge, a raised ornamental border featuring clusters of grapes and peanut pods.
