In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is the English text of the colony: "EAST AFRICA". Below is the year of issue, 1952. The edge of the coin features decorative elements in the form of denticles.

    A central hole is present. Above it is the image of the British Imperial Crown, below is the English text in two lines: "ONE CENT". To the left and right along the rim are inscriptions in Latin: "GEORGIVS SEXTVS REX" (George the Sixth, King). At the bottom is the letter "H", denoting the mint mark of the Heaton Mint. The circumference is adorned with decorative raised denticles.
