In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of a high-speed train. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is text in Japanese: «新幹線鉄道開業» - opening of the Shinkansen railway; below is text in English: 100YEN - 100 yen and the year of minting: «平成27年» - 2015.
Obverse
In the central part, a high-speed train is depicted. Above and to the right of it is an inscription in Japanese and English in two lines: «東北» and «TOHOKU» respectively, which translate as: Tohoku. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the country name in Japanese: «日本国» - Japan; below is «百円» - one hundred yen.
