Reverse Along the edge of the coin on the left and right are branches of holly. In the central part is a large number 20. Below, along the circumference, is the inscription in Spanish 'CENTAVOS', meaning '20 centavos'.
Obverse Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised denticles. On the left, top, and right is the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR' - Republic of Ecuador. At the bottom is the year of minting '1966'. In the central part is the national coat of arms. On the oval shield is a depiction of the Chimborazo volcano, the Guayas River, and a steamship. Above the volcano is a ribbon on which the sun is placed, surrounded by the astrological signs of Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer. Above the shield is a Condor with outstretched wings. On the sides of the shield are 2 halberds and 2 septums with national flags, separated by laurel and palm branches. The Roman fasces below the shield symbolize the dignity of the republic.
