In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of a kneeling woman in prayer. Below, the text is struck in two lines in Italian: "CITTÀ DEL VATICANO" and "L.50" - "VATICAN CITY 50 LIRE". Along the arc of the right edge are the initials of the artist Nicola Morelli: "N.MORELLI".
Obverse
In the central part is depicted a coat of arms with a crown. Along the arc of the coin's edge is text in Latin: "PAVLVS VI P.M. A. XVI MCMLXXVII", which translates as: "PAUL VI, 16TH YEAR OF PONTIFICATE, YEAR OF ISSUE 1978".
