To the left near the rim, the Portuguese inscription '1917. APARIÇÕES DE', and to the right ' Nª. Sª. DE FÁTIMA. 2017', which translates as 'Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima. 1917-2017'. In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of the statue of the Virgin Mary from the Fatima Sanctuary.
Obverse
At the top, the name of the issuing country in Portuguese 'PORTUGAL'. At the bottom, the inscription '2,5 EURO'. To the left near the rim is the mintmark of the Lisbon Mint, the abbreviation 'INCM'. In the central part is the coat of arms of Portugal — a Spanish-style heraldic shield with seven castles and five small shields against the background of an armillary sphere, framed by a laurel wreath.
